Some years ago Six years after I met Bruno Remy he was standing down from the Arch de Triumph in Paris about to visit a brother south of Paris who had returned from Kinchasa in the Congo he had been working with UNICEF.
Bruno was looking in the Window of an Antique Book Shop at Maps and in the reflection he could see the Arch de Triumph one of the Maps was of Paris as it had been many years ago. He had difficulty placing his old accomodation and the University he had studied in on the Map and it was then he came up with idea of his book ; Le Marais L'histoire de La Ville (a history of Paris up to that point The Middle Ages) now in abridged form as The Kings of the Marias by Bruno Remy.
Many night and years passed and on the way back from work or to the shops at the weekend or just out walking we would greet Bruno and his gardening wife and say "Hi Bruno how's your Book coming along". Like a Mole it was tunnelling beneath Paris following old building placements and relating them to Paris as it is found today.
We had Honeymooned in Paris having Overlanded from Glasgow on July 5th 1974 and stayed at the Hotel D'Angleterre near Pigalle . Our interest in Paris was accentuated when Brian Armstrong my work collegue from Guildford moved to Paris in 1980 he was the only member of the Church of Scotland in Woking where we were living at the time, whom I knew at that time and I relied on him for news of the next Reformation.
Eurostar brought even more interest and the common steady commentaire came from our bridesmaids Sister whio actually lived and worked there so each time she phoned we new things were all right.
Francs at the time were the Currency but Euros were now in Vogue and also the Price of Photo a French Contemporary Photo Magazine I bought sometimes on the way home from the British Museum where I now worked.
"If your ever pasing one of these Antique Bookshops" Bruno said one day to me "Could you buy something relative to France if you can find any bargains" I said I would and bought one day a French language book in 3 Volumes from a Set called in Fench A Dictionary of Sex? Little did I know of its contents.
He thanked me and laughed and not long later left the Village to go to Mets and then Luxemburge - a most charming and well travelled couple to have as neighbours and friends ; here is their Xmas Message:-
Dear Ian, Long time since we were in contact with each other. How time flies by so fast Trust you are fine. We wish you a joyous Christmas and a very happy and healthy 2013.
We'll be spending Christmas with Ariana, Gregoire and adorable Anouk in Strasbourg. They moved to that beautiful and medieval city early this year. (you probably did visit it with Jackie). They like it there as it is so international. Andrew, Martina and little Milan (almost two years old and very active) will be there coming from Prague. The Remy family reunited at last.
How about you Ian? Will you be spending Christmas in Scotland? Please convey our best wishes to Jean. We'd love to hear from you, Ian. Let's stay in touch. Love from Zaga and Bruno.
Andrew runs Ok Karaoke in Prague and Ariana is owner and Sculptor of an Art Sculpture Gallery in Saltasbourg.(Mostly fine Sandstone Works and Bronze) http://www.ariana-remy.eu/ if you had Sixpence you could Sing in Prague along to Tommy Steele and also buy a small work form the gallery this Xmas.
MERRY XMAS.

Radio Request one of the best from Radio Bahrain & Clyde
Some years ago while collecting up my cassette tapes from around the house with a view to Digitising them I found a Birthday Radio Dediction Tape we had recorded in 1983 while living in Bahrain.
The theme of the Daily programme with Tim Manns as presenter was Radio link up with Radio Clyde in Scotland , so we sent them in Scotland a message and for my Birthday I got some dedications too.
As my wife was at the time suffering from Cancer and bed ridden I had plaenty of time to collect memories and chose to scan copy old photos.
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=6AC563CFF5AD921F!986&authkey=!AJw_Xgf4KG7x9xM
The result was a collection of images from our past overlayed with the Radio Bahrain programme which with Audacity I had converted to Digital and Windows had strung along the Soundtrack.
As I got three mentions I consider it unique.
Tim Manns is now Radio Plymouth and Mike Riddoch is still radio Clyde2FM on Riddy in the Morning programme.
I have since stopped playing Rugby having achieved the heights of Gulf Champions and Representing the Gulf in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sevens.
I chose to work in the British Library and as we are the Nations Sound archive I asked about Radio Dedications and was informed that they are not collected as a Catalogued Item so I handed mine in. Here is the Birthday dedication Video :-
https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=6AC563CFF5AD921F!662&authkey=!AK26-0HOBZrHwTs
I hope you enjoy the unique choice of the Programme you are about to hear and Hello to anyone of the same Timeline in the same places.
Copyright was a concern so I contacted Tim Manns one of the Radio Bahrain Presenters now in Plymouth and received this reply.
Dear Ian
Thanks for your message and link to the film. I am so sorry to hear that you lost Jackie, it must have been very hard for you.
I haven’t listened to much, if anything, of my work in Bahrain. That show was nearly 30 years ago and I hardly recognise myself! You are very welcome to use it. Gulf countries were never overly concerned with copyright and I don’t think I could ever have any claim over something that old!
I would be amazed if any of my work made it into the British Library, commercial radio being such a transient and ‘light’ form of broadcasting. I did make one programme five years ago that might just warrant an entry which I would be happy to provide if they were interested. I worked for Southampton FC for three years, running The Saint radio station. In 2006 I published Tie A Yellow Ribbon – How The Saints Won The Cup http://www.hagiologists.com/tayr.htm to celebrate the 30th anniversary. I then used the interviews I had conducted for the book to make a one-hour radio programme which I am quite proud of – after 32 years in the business I hope it not too immodest to have one programme to be proud of!
I don’t have any links to Radio Bahrain however my old friend and RadBah colleague Bob McCreadie did visit a couple of years ago and was amazed to find Ian Fisher still there and also that they were still using the same jingles. I had them commissioned in 1981 so they have had their monies-worth out of them!
I spent six years in Qatar and I did meet Graham and Carol a few times. In fact Carol and my (then) wife were friends.
Best wishes,
Tim Manns

GREECE our journey in a hired car from Athens - 1980
In 1980 I was resident in Saudi Arabia and waiting for clearance from the Saudi Aabian Authorities for my wife's Permit to allow Jackie a Teacher to come and live with me from our home in Woking in Surre, England. She was working at Winston Churchill School in the Domestic Science Department during the 9 months it took to obtain the Visa with the help of our London Office.
As it took so long Tom an Architect I worked with in Athens, in 3rd September Street, offered their house six Railway stops North of Athens as a respite home for us to meet and as they were going to America for 3 weeks around the August Bank Holiday,we had 3 weeks use of their house. This was very kind of Tom & Linda and we chose to tour the Greek country side as well after they left for their Vacation so we hired a car and drove as you will see to some of the most exhillarating sceenery.
From Athens up to Volos a quick look at Thessaloniki and from Agia across to Karpenisi and down to Delphi where we then crossed over by Patra ferry to Olympia and drove across the Peloponnese to Agremon and back to Athens on their August bank Holiday weekend, driving against the traffic over the Korinthos Canal into the deserted town to return the Hire car.
On the train back from Athen's main Square back to the house just North off Athens we realised the slight rise to the cooler slopes above Athens and eventually Vaziliacos IceCream Parlour and our Temporary home.
The following photos follow the route described above with nights in Volos and Karpenisi, which shows what you can do if you keep driving to keep cool.
After Agia we went to Volos and swam a while then drove up to see Thesolonika and back towards Agia turning West up and over the steep hills to Karpenissi where we spend a few nights.
Our parting at Athens Airport was like a Movie Cheerio my flying to Saudi and Jackie flying to London , anyway it all worked out.
The Olympics - well after visiting the Origonal Stadium we had to visit one at least in our time so , we managed to get to Los Angeles 1984

We later stayed again with them in San Francisco as we left the Middle East some 5 years on.
In return we offered Windsor Castle and a visit to Royal Holloway University tour when they visited us in England . I lost contact with Tom & Linda after we met in Windsor and wish them well .
We have just lost another friend to Cancer -Chris Parker is Lost - is the Blog name.

Our referee the late David Machonachie of Bahrain RFC
Well - pheep 10 yards back in time - somewhere near the starting line of the Dubia Sevens Rugby Tournament David Maconachie organised Gulf Refereeing in Bahrain and the Gulf. See david on the pitch at Saar Road Bahrain in the Video here the Jpeg appears some 6.22 into the Film of Ian's birthday Dedication by Radio Bahrain.
Ian.
Ps David born North London and evacuated lost both his parents during the war and after a career in the Army in the Manchester area got a Job in Philippine Airways then Gulf Air Bahrain where we all came to know him.
His immediate attraction to his wife led to 3 children who grew up in the Dilmun and Rugby Clubs and Hash House Harriers.
All 3 children spoke on the Themes Adventure , Organised Sport and Caring -Kindness which portrayed David. David Sainsbury also a local National Referee spoke long and well on the Contribution of David to Sussex Refereeing - infact 25,000 games were under his control by the end of his life.
He got involved with Sussex Refereeing after organising the Gulf Association of Referees and was instigative in creating the Dubai Sevens.
When he returned home to their inlaws house it backed on to the Bognor Regis Rugby Ground and David went through the back gate and asked if they needed a Referee to which they thankfully replied Yes Please.
Peter Tatum Brown (Sally in New Zealand)& Rachel in Tv , said he was recruited by David and 4 referees ran Bahrain RFC.
Donations are requested to the Referees Fund for Deprived Players.
Bognor is a Lovely change from Surrey and Felyham a linked habitat of small cottages and Pubs with snake like avenues down to the Sea from St. Mary's Church Yard.
The Cremation was in the Morning and the adjacent modern Community Hall was used next to the Chuch with Tea and Shortbread for those who wished to chat.
During my stay I met Peter obviously and his wife and a couple from the Dilmun Club who ran Bahrain Aluminium Extrusions who were family friends.
David Sainsbury spoke so well in the Church I asked if his authoritive voice came from Refereeing himself and he added his experience was now National County Games and that David did all his organising from his own phone at home leaving the family phone free . David up untill the end had infilled with himself if the referee did not turn up at the wicket to bowl . Cricket being his main interest.
David seen here at 6.22 minutes was one of 4 of the Rugby Club Referees when I was there and long after however died last month Sussex as head of Sussex Rugby Union Club Referees
In the Stills Film with Radio Bahrain Dedication Recording for my Birthday Tim Manns is now Radio Plymouth and Mike Riddoch is now Riddy in the Morning Radio Clyde2FM.
The film was made as a memorial to Jackie, of Bahrain School, Ian's wife however since we have also lost Ian's Mother, Father & Father in Law & John French his Middlerow Partner at Bahrain & Marlow RFC.
Barbar Avenue where we lived has changed somewhat and the club has moved from Saar Road to its new location at www.bahrainRFC.com
He refereed many evening games and hot dusty humid league matches.
The preferred Charity is The Wooden Spoon Society if you wish to contribute.
Dear All, here is Davids Sheet from the Service.

This is the size to find, we found one once near theWest side of Loch Lomond on a vacant for sale piece of land we were looking to buy . The dog got a good barking bath in the afterpool - a Tinkers Bath I call it . ther was another just North of Tarbet on the Crianlarich road about 5 miles past on the right beside the sweep of land towards the Loch, we caught a Trout there in the pond at the waterfalls foot - brown swirlling water turning back on itself and all to slippy to reach forward to pull the dangling thing in, from the caught line in the tree overhanging the stream.
No fishimg this time just a whole selection of breakfast goodies to choose from, unless you want Porridge that is !

DAY 12 ETON DORNEY CANOE SPRINT FINALS
I do I discovered this when Training at Auchencruive, when I tried it for the first time, so I went to the 2012 Olympics at Eton Dorneyby Windsor Racecourse where they have a 1000metre lake for Canoeing and saw the Kayaks and Canoe Sprint Finals -Big Crowd, Big Day and a lot of grass as it was by Windsor Racecourse.
It is more spread out than watching Mike Hazelwood at Loch Earnhead on Loch Earn in Scotland, Water Skiing and Jumping so you need binoculars or a zoom camera.
This is available on YouTube.com at as Part 1 of Day12
Also available on Mediafire.com as Part 2 of Day 12
As the Races progressed I moved down the length of the man made rowing lake 1 Km long,
part 3 of Day 12
It will show not only the Start Point but a Grebe and 6 Chicks playing with the Orange floats.
Finally the end of a Morning of fast events and prize giving to Norway and the like, my favourite was seeing the Fours Sprint Canoes paddle intandem Sleek & Majesic here is part 4 of Day 12
THE END.
Well Done Everyone.
I wonder what the flickering is when I filmed the Public Screen with my Camera?

We set out from Glasgow, about 10.30 am travelling round the Glasgow Motorways and up the M80 towards Stirling eventually arriving at the Green Hotel Pitlochary in time for a Complimentary Coffee Tea and Cakes !
On turning around and going back for petrol into Pitlochary, I was glad my Skoda Superb had beeped a fuel stop and had not let me get stranded by chance, in the small petrol station at Kinloch Rannoch with no diesel.
My Skoda is available on Youtube at http://youtu.be/GdGmKLOsZYs and it has done well with it's new Diesel Emission filter and Senors replaced.

We then carried on to the Hotel getting there about 3pm Tuesday a Spring break room each and a Dinner included saw to a restful night and some wandering in the morning before travelling back through Dunkeld and a chance to have a Piano stop at the Taybank by the River Tay bridge , it is a Music fan bar either see video on Youtube - http://youtu.be/wW57QpFHYn8 - or below

After lunch we took the route for Condorrat to visit my cousin John McDonald (Cumbernauld RFC) and say "Hello", bringing him from my local Marlow Bottom Brewery a large bottle of Rebellion Bitter, then home about 5pm Wednesday. All in all a nice day out for two.

Prior to setting out on Monday I received a Full Scottish breakfast and nine holes of Golf from Marr Hal,l Golf and Spa, Bishopton who also had a Piano in the Great Hall a Yamaha baby grand. http://youtu.be/syuLcNYXzOc The reason I refer to Stephen in the Video is we exchange Music on Facebook and he just happens to be a Hewell Packard laptop salesmanager so he helps with a few Early Learning things !Although -Low Notes under your right hand in the Video and the Guitars seem to have moved on the wall ? You can see the Guitars on the Video on Youtube - http://youtu.be/TOv_I3dijCo

Chopsticks at the great hall in Marr Hall Bishopton Scotland
This is the second of two Pianos on which I play a short piece of Chopsticks.
It is a Yamaha baby grand and echos along the vast Hall.
I learned to play chopsticks when at Langside with some training from a Waverly Gardens by Queens Park, piano teacher.
My playing inspiration my sister Linda and the late Eunice Harris of Fernbank Avenue, Sudberry Hill, Greenford Middlesex was the duet with Jean McDonald my Mum They both went to Wembley Grammer before the second world war and enjoyed meeting up on our Piano in Tantallon Road in Shawlands for a Plonking session of,
Run Rabbit Run and Kiss Me Goodnight Seargent Major, bothMusic Sheets kept flat until the Piano Stool was rummaged.
So here goes just a quick unpractised attempt due to laptop being new and a Piano being handy !
The first Piano I Blogged on Blogian was found in the Taybank Dnkeld which looked more like ours in Tantallon Road an Upright . I also played a Piano at my Grandmothers in Hampden
